Welcome to a unique educational ecosystem located in the very heart of Ukraine — the city of Cherkasy.
Today, Cherkasy Specialized School No. 18 Named After Vyacheslav Chornovil stands on the threshold of a large-scale overhaul. We are reorganizing into the innovative Cherkasy Municipal Academic Lyceum Named After Vyacheslav Chornovil. This is not just a change of status; it is the creation of a modern European hub of academic, scientific, and linguistic excellence.
Our Journey: Bridging Time-Honored Traditions and Future Innovations
We possess the ability to grow and adapt to the global demands of our time:
- 1959–1967 — The foundation of the institution was laid with the construction of Buildings I and II.
- 1995–2001 — Successfully transformed into an economics school and achieved specialized status.
- 2014 — A step toward European standards: Building IV has been commissioned, featuring a premium-quality sports hall.
- 2018 — The institution was honorably named after the prominent Ukrainian statesman, Vyacheslav Chornovil.
Today, we nurture and inspire over 1,000 ambitious students. Our infrastructure boasts 47 fully equipped classrooms, a digital library, dedicated museums, and student-led media centers. Notably, our printed newspaper, The 18th Parallel, is a laureate of the International Competition for School Media, complemented beautifully by our English-language publication, BRAIN.
Global Outlook and Educational Synergy
Open to the world, we bring a solid background in delivering international initiatives:
- Collaborative Projects: We actively participate in the IREX “Learn to Discern: Info-Media Literacy” program, the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE initiative, the youth platform “Working for Peace” the Twinning network, and the unique International Children’s Court of Justice (WELTGEReCHTSHOF der Kinder).
- Linguistic Partnership with the Goethe-Institut: We spearhead the advanced CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology-Linguistic synergy with the Goethe-Institut: actively implementing the advanced CLIL method (“German + Physics at School”)
- A Culture of Excellence: The institution has been repeatedly recognized with Gold Medals at prestigious international exhibitions, including “Modern Educational Institutions” and “Innovations in Modern Education”
Our greatest asset is our 67 top-tier educators (including PhD holders, master methodologists, and excellence in education awardees) who embrace the philosophy of partnership pedagogy and nurture a new generation of leaders.

STEM Education: Equipping cutting-edge STEM and robotics laboratories to boost IT networks and exact sciences.

- Advanced Science Labs: Upgrading natural science classrooms to conduct research in line with international benchmarks.
- A Healthy Nation: Developing and digitizing our sports infrastructure to support both Olympic and local youth sports (our basketball team proudly holds the title of Champions of the All-Ukrainian Youth Basketball League).
